A huge R80 billion regeneration project for the Cape Town Station precinct and more than 50 hectares of land between Woodstock and Culemborg is set to radically alter Cape Town's inner city and breathe life into a "dead area". The ambitious inner-city facelift is one of seven national transport orientated development projects being considered by the Passenger Rail Agency of SA. The rail corridors will have nodes and stations, each with a unique character and economic profile. Four neighborhoods will be linked by a central spine or grand promenade... British designer Thomas Heatherwick has unveiled plans to create a new art gallery at the V&A Waterfront museum in Cape Town by hollowing out sections of a grain silo complex. Heatherwick Studio's proposal is to give the V&A Waterfront a building dedicated to contemporary African art within the cluster of 42 concrete tubes that make up a historic grain silo structure. An elliptical section will be hollowed out from the center of the nine-story building to create a grand atrium that will be filled with light from a glass roof overhead. Some silo chambers will be carved open at ground level to accommodate exhibition galleries, while others will accommodate elevators... Beautiful Facet: ORIGINALITY
